And indeed, it turned out to be true. A hand puppet has something that we as adults lack and will never attain.

If you understand the dynamics between the child and the puppet, you can deploy its power in a conscious and targeted manner. You can playfully and easily build a trusting relationship between the child and the puppet, challenging them through the puppet to push their boundaries, try new things, share their thoughts, and participate in your activityâwithout the puppet taking over your role or becoming an educator.
Children naturally open up to puppets. The puppet is a buddy, sparking curiosity and trust, even in the simplest everyday situations. Through fun, playful exchanges, your child can find their voice, feel safe to share, and enjoy a new kind of connection with you. Thereâs no need for complex puppeteeringâjust a bit of imagination and an old sock is all it takes to start a new journey of discovery together.
A puppet offers something uniqueâan open, friendly presence that doesnât judge. This friend speaks directly to children, inviting them into a world of curiosity and adventure. You can engage with them from two roles: as yourself and as the puppet. But remember, the puppet is not just another âyouââthatâs part of the magic!
The puppet brings friendship and fun
The puppet encourages talking and sharing
Children feel heard, seen and valued
The puppet reveals your childâs thoughts and ideas
With just a little practice, youâll find that the puppet opens new doors to easy communication and joyful interaction with your child.
Maybe youâve never used a puppet before or wonder if itâs something only professionals can do. Actually, there are only three ingredients to keep in mind:
1. Perspective â Children see something special in puppets, something that lets them feel free to be themselves. Embrace this perspective and see where it leads!
2. Practice â You donât need to be a puppeteer; your child isnât expecting a performance. With a bit of practice, you can create a new friend for your child.
3. Plunge â Stepping out of your comfort zone might feel funny at first, but every parent knows that growth moments are good for both you and your child.
