Look What I Got: A Headlamp!

You have to see this—I got a lamp, yes, a lamp for the dark, for my head! Handy, right? Do you know why I have it now? Because I get to join the evening walks with our dog before dinner. Yeah, I don’t always go, just when I feel like it, but now it gets dark early, you know. In our forest, you can’t see anything when it’s dark.

I can tell it’s dark, but I can’t see where the paths are, where the trees stand, or if I need to watch out for tree stumps or prickly bushes. I can see them when it’s light, but in the dark, I run into everything. And yes, I trip all the time too.

Why I Needed a Headlamp

That’s why I now have this lamp—for my head! Now I can see where I’m looking and where I need to walk. Isn’t that smart? Helen has one too because she always trips over everything, steps into puddles, or slips in the mud—that’s what happens in the forest. She got tired of it, so now we both have lamps. We still want to walk, but we also want to see where we’re going, right?

Trying Out My Headlamp

So today, I tested my lamp. I turned off all the lights and walked around with it. It works perfectly! When I tilt my head down, the light points down, and when I lift my head, the light points up. I don’t have to do anything else.

Now I want to go to the forest to try it out there—to see if it works the same way. Will I be able to see the trees now? Will I finally know where I’m walking? That’s what I want to find out!

Staying Safe and Visible

Do you know what else is handy? If there are other people walking in the forest, they’ll see me too. They’ll know someone’s there because they’ll see my lamp. A lamp is always attached to something—or someone.

So now I’m off to the forest, and tomorrow I’ll let you know how it went, okay?
